School of Applied Science & Technology

About
Welcome to the School of Applied Science & Technology (SoAST)!

The School of Applied Science & Technology is driven by its bifocal priority on growth and quality. In course of the last four years the number of

  • UG and PG programs offered from the School grew from zero to fourteen;
  • Student strength grew from zero to nearly 500; and
  • Faculty strength grew from three to more than thirty.
Nearly all the members of our faculty hold doctoral degrees from reputed universities, and a large number are engaged in guiding PhD scholars themselves. SoAST is a major contributor to MAKAUT’s research activities – both in the number of quality research publications and in attracting external research funding. The School boasts of two INSPIRE awardees and one Nehru-Cambridge scholar among its faculty.

The faculty of SoAST are committed to engage in interdisciplinary research enabled by contemporary computational toolkits. And the students engage in project-based learning. We are proud that many of our PG students, and even a few UG students, coauthor journal articles along with their mentors.

The soul of the School of Applied Science & Technology is student centric. It regularly publishes “for the students, by the students” learning resources such as A Compendium of Materials Processing, Stalwarts of Statistics, etc. In May 2022, the School organized APPSCICON 22 – a multidisciplinary national conference “for the students and by the students” which attracted more than three hundred registered and appreciating participants.

Prof Sukhendu Samajdar, PhD (+91 98362 21052. mail.dar@gmail.com) currently serves as the Director of the School of Applied Science & Technology.
